Is 'Growth Hacker' an outdated term? Should we stop using it?
A few days ago, I read a Reddit discussion on r/Marketing named "Don't apply for jobs that are labeled as ‘growth hacker’".
The post talked about how some companies don’t really understand or respect their marketing teams.
Here are the main points:
- Companies with this type of role expect their marketers to magically attract new customers.
- Growth Marketing is about long-term, scalable strategies, when Growth Hacking is more about quick wins.
- According to Google Trends the shift happened at the end of 2019. Even before Covid and the big changes in the tech industry.
I've tried to find the explanation for this change, but I haven't found an answer. Does anyone know why or have an idea?
